BEAM/90%

Where: Kochi Biennale

When: 2014

90% is the working title for an ongoing collaboration with Cathy Lane extending work I did for her 2014 installation BEAM at the Kochi Biennale with students from Srishti Institute of Art and Technology in Bangalore. For the original piece I designed an interface for the team to quickly assign sonic parameters to various categories of AIS shipping data to create an installation in which sound spatialisation selection and processing of field recordings, interviews and maritime sounds, were a realtime reflection of the state of shipping in Kochi harbour. For 90% I have radically redesigned the interface to allow a more refined understanding and analysis of the data. In a residency at Metal in Southend we started to develop the idea around ship movements in the Thames Estuary (see screenshot of the Max patch above). The new piece is in progress.
